Fishing Report

Nov 01, 2008
Greetings from the Low Country. Seems we have a case of wonderful fish numbers but we have been remiss in finding days when the wind's not howling or the skies are not threatening. Still we have managed to get out a few days here and there with pretty good results
As stated Redfish numbers are as good as I have ever seen them with large schools feasting on fair numbers of available shrimp. Fishing has been good at both ends of the tide spectrum. Tailing fish will please back in the grass with tides of 8 feet and more. But as usual the most consistent fishing will occur during low tide periods with fish schooling on mud flast adjacent to grass areas and oyster rakes. Dark colored Clousers will make the fly rodders happy while 1/4 oz. grubs and small gold spoons will keep the conventional rods nicely bent. Tipping with fresh shrimp surely will not hurt! As long as the Shrimp are around Trout will stil be available in relatively shallow water adjacent to grass and oyster points. Look to a popping cork shrimp combo and even 1/4 oz grubs for success. Concentrate your efforts where the water is clean with best results during "moderate" incoming tides.
If we get any luck with the weather I expect these patterns to hold up well into November. If the fronts get close together and the temperatures start to drop expect the tailing Redfish to be the first to slow down and the trout will gradually move to deeper water in the creeks. We'll see shrimp numbers drop off as well. Lets hope the weather man cooperates so we can look foward to some great fishing days ahead. Capt. Jack Brown
